Nomad's Diary Notes

Entry Title Note Posted
Caste in India

I always knew that caste system existed in India but never knew that things are so bad even in present times.
Most people like me who belong to Urban India rarely know what happens in the rural arears and the media is either government controlled or too busy making money elsewhere than handling any such issues. Nonetheless it was really sad to know about such discrimination.

No wonder we hear of a lot of people converting to other religions (mostly Christianity these days). I think most of these problems boil down to Poverty. It is rightly said that Poverty is a viscious circle. I barely understood this concept when I first learnt it back in the 9th grade but as I moved along life and saw some rough times myself I realised just how important education is and how important access to Money is for gaining good education etc.

I remember having a South Indian friend whose was very possessive about her kitchen just like your mom. Their maid would never enter the kitchen to clean it and because I belonged to a meat eating family and a diff religion her mom never liked me entering their kitchen, but at that time I was too young to understand what was the reason she got offended.
Otherwise they were wonderful people and that girl was my best friend till the age of 12 after that her father got transferred from Mumbai to elsewhere and back in those days we didn't have access to emails etc. so I lost track of her.

As for being permanently scarred emotionally, I guess that is natural. As hard as we try; there are certain things that remain with us all along our lives. It is difficult to almost impossible to change certain aspects of how we were programmed in our early days.

Anyways it was really nice to read this entry. And thanks for your advice on my entry :)

Wow I wish I knew Tamil, I'd definitely be a follower on that blog of yours :)))

Hmm I wonder if I will say the same thing after 13 years in an English speaking country, although I doubt coz I am surrounded by hindi speaking family and also we mix around with a lot of Hindi speaking people at community gatherings etc., but I guess time will tell Question Good Luck though in keeking up with you mother tongue.

Pneumonia

lol @ the street dog..... Gosh that was scary, but its nice to know that you are doing better now.

Thanks for your kind words, it helps a lot. I know this too will pass and I will spring back into action, its only a matter of time.
As for my dream....lol the interpretation is only for fun. My belief regarding dreams is similar to yours. Infact most of my dreams have a predicatable history, like I had the current one because I have a fascination with people of the sunsign scorpio and the aussie boy happens to be that, I was thinking of purchasing grapes at the supermarket the other, I seen the castle n number of times in my dreams but I have no clue from where the hell did the mermaid come there Rolling Eyes Anyways I LOVE my dreams they are funny and I feel like I am watching a movie and honestly I derive no meaning out of it.

The reson I put the interpretation there was because I find it fascinating to see how these websites and books attribute meanings of various objects and I wonder how the hell do they come up to that conclusion!!!

Anyways I hope you get well very soon....take care of yourself Smile

My Enconter with Cough

You probably should go to the doc but in the meanwhile if you feel like you can try some herbal remedies (or try these in conjunction with the meds prescribed).
I have this problem of long lasting cough after a bout of cold.
My coughs would last upto 1month even after the cold is gone.  Having a clove helped me tons to relieve a bout of cough, which just like your cough wouldn't let me sleep or do anything.
You can also try hot salt water gargles and drinking milk with a pinch of turmeric (these are remedies for cold mostly but also help relieve cough)
On a personal level I prefer herbal treatments hence just wanted to let you know of some that I know, you can also keep this website handy, I've used a few treatments off here and they seem to work well if started at early stages.

Thanksgiving

Nice to know that you have a boring uncomplicated life with lots of things to be thankful about, I sincerely hope God grants such boring uncomplicated lives to all.... Amen... Smile

RYN: Although it is very difficult to describe any particular culture coz obviously things change from location to location but if I were to explain Australian people in one word the I guess I'd say
Laid Back.
And I mean to say this in a non-degrading way but I almost find their style of living to be well a little rural.

Can't speak for the whole country but only of the state where I am; from my perspective the average Victorian works through the week waiting for the weekend. He earn his wages so that he can relax over the weekend. Relaxing translates either into hobbies like gardnening / boating or have a couple of drinks and chill out with family / friends. There are hardly to no stores open after 9pm, most of the work stops after 5 itself and the number of people on the road is minimal after 5pm. Most peole will have dinner around 7ish and sleep by 10:30-11pm latest, can sleep earlier as well.
The Average victorian is mostly a happy and satisfied individual who does not dream about being the next Donald Trump. I could go on and on and on about how things are so different here but I don't want to bore you.
Offcourse like I said above these are things are based on my perspective and you have to consider 2 facts here... first being I have viewed life differently for the past 27 years and second being I'm not in the professional workforce as yet.
But I'd bet a 100% on the fact that they are one hell of a laid back group.... lol :)

My bro runs a small home run business where most of his work is of techincal kind so there is hardly anything to do there; except accounts; but honestly I don't like working with family, I find it more sensible to be independant it avoids any kinds of conflicts that may (God forbid) arise sometime in future if ever!!!!!

India Trip

Lol...yeah I know I am wicked and I'm kinda proud abou that Laughing

No I'm not on a work visa; I'm a permanent resident here which means that there is no complusion to work but I can work if I want to, I don't know what the U.S equivalent of that would be.

Nice to know that you are back home, hope you enjoyed your trip.

Concerns about Money

I pray that your job stays secured and that you manage to pay off your mortgage ASAP.

I'm a complete nut at understanding the nitty-gritties of the stock and the financial markets...lol for now all I know is that for some reason all the markets are down and all industries are affected. Anyways learning this is one of my AOI's. Infact Ms Kaur was giving me a brief explanation of how economy works and how banks etc show money and similar basics on my trip, it was interesting to learn a few things.

Hey that is so coool, I wish you were coming to Mumbai too, I'd love to meet up with you....provided you'd like it too.. Smile

Man!!! The words shopping and packing sound so terrfying to me right now...*gosh*

Aww thats so sweet of you to worry about J, but I'm sure she will manage great, I guess most mothers are instinctively trained to handle kids and it is not as difficult as men think it to be...

Anyways goodluck for your trip, I hope and pray that you enjoy your journey and your stay here.

Religions and Me

"hey guys! so i just got a question what if you found out that all religions are just a joke and made up? what would you do continue living how you do and pray to your god? or would you break down?"

Honestly I am at this stage in my life where I think all religions are just a joke and mostly made up.
How did I react when I strated feeling like this??
At first I did break down and nothing around me made sense and sometimes I feel that maybe I am still in that state of shock, but its in the end stages now though.
Anyways I know one thing which is only my faith in "Religion" has been broken and that I still believe in God (well mostly..lol..its sometimes yes he exists and sometimes no he is all fake just like the world, but mostly it is a yes) so I pray to him in the manner which was taught to me, coz what matters most is acknowledging his presence. I believe that I did not choose where and which religion I would be born into but it was selected for me by God himself and hence I pray to him using the rituals of that religion even though I don't completely believe in the concept of religions any longer.

But yes I do agree with you when you say that having the concept of religion is very important, because it leaves those handful of people who are truly good and follow and believe in goodness in general. Besides someone who is truly religious will automatically know that another faith has to be respected. I dread to live in a religionless world coz I doubt you would ever be able to trust anyone then.

I just think that people give way too much importance to rituals and forget the basic fundamentals which all teach us to be good human beings. You see the problem arises when we try to set a standard of what is "good human behaviour" every religion has a different parameter of judging goodness and has set rituals to inculcate goodness which conflict with the rituals of other religions.

Sometimes I also think that these days religion has become a tool for money making and politics. But with all the negatives I still prefer having a world with religions in it even though they are fighting rather than have a religionless world.

Anyways, as for me; I'm heading to Victoria in Australia, I'm not going there as a student but as a skilled migrant. The problem is I don't want to continue working in the same field there.
Currently I'm in Mumbai/Bombay in India. Which city in India are you from??

Birthday

Well Well Well Happy Birthday Dear... Lolz I guess I know now why I like your advice and admire your friendship.
You just happen to share the same birthday as Mr 871, actually you are a one day and a few years older I guess. Mr. Green (Hope you didn't mind me saying this besides I admired your advice long before I knew your birthdate)

No we don't have an issue with formula feeding but her doctor specifically asked for mothers milk mostly because the kids are premature and we don't want to take any chances.
Perhaps you'd want to look this up in your spare time
http://www.007b.com/wonders_breastmilk.php

And since we've experienced first hand the difficulties that can be experienced when new borns are deprived of mothers milk, we decided to rather ask around. And afterall this is *you know which country* so we can borrow anything and everything, people don't mind it and are always happy to help....Very HappyVery Happy
Btw sis is doing better now and has started expressing milk when required.

Anyways hope you had a great day

Its pathetic when all things decide to go wrong in one single day.. but I guess it happens with all of us....

Welcome

Hey Nomad...that was a nice refreshing entry from you up there....it’s nice to know more about you.

Thanks for your comments and advice on both my diaries.

Like you I too have a personal diary which is updated more frequently and I generally copy paste the entries in this diary from there but its funny that whenever I write in that diary I imagine myself to be talking to a wall and I find myself crazy so I keep this one as public!!
I guess the reason I keep one diary as personal is because somehow even though we can sort of write as anonymous writers here on this website, there still are things that you are just not comfortable sharing with the world,  and also the fact that out there more often than not I make half entries out of sheer laziness but its alright coz no one reads it!!

Lolz "Welcome" was a crazy movie I couldn't last through the whole movie though...it’s just not my type of movie....

Take care

Edward Norton I think Ed Norton his highly underrated as an actor.  He's actually believable in his roles which is hard to say for many of the other actors you've mentioned.  I'm currious to see how he does in The Hulk this summer.

The Namesake

I've seen that movie too and quite liked it.
And eventhough I couldn't really relate to the whole movie but yes I definately did relate to the feelings they have shown the first generation migrants experiencing.
Actually in the face of my impending migration, I'm actually dreading the thought of having to go through that feeling of loneliness.
Confused

[onajourney]
2008-05-20 17:35:47

The Namesake I can very well understand your feelings. It sure is a well made film and makes you 'think'.All indians must see it as others too but they may not connect too well as you could. Life has a lot for us to learn from![sharda] 2008-05-19 02:24:13

My Faith and Religions

Hey firstly thanks for your comment. And thanks for keeping up with both my diaries.
Honestly with the situation I'm in I'm kinda suffering for being a free spirit and it takes me some amount of effort to tame myself lol.... but since you are one yourself you know we don't give up hope so I'll continue being whatever it is that I am and hope that others understand meSmile

No I haven't met Sam as yet, its just one of the interent arranged kinda match, but yeah I have had my share of being fooled over the net so I know how to be careful now, but I like this mode of interaction as a starting point for something so I choose this over the meet once meet twice and give an answer for life.

Congtrats on your girls Bday, btw whats a "6th Star" Birthday?? And I love the ABCD part..hehe

Sometimes I wish we could fuse all the religions for all positives that they have, we could have the most wonderful world if that was possible. Rolling Eyes I so hate it when one religion claims supremacy over the other and its even more frustrating to watch people believe in this supremacy logic. Btw may I ask what is it that makes you believe so strongly in the existence of the superpower??

Take Care

[onajourney]
2008-04-22 16:43:26

My Faith and Religions Geez, I dont know why christianity sounds like other religions...could it be...could it be...that it was stories taken from other religions and put into one??  Try the Epic of Gilgamesh...tell me if noahs flood is not a rewrite of that....most of the bible stories are taken from other religions once you study it...its really easy to see...good luck with finding your way...  I did read the Bhagavad Gita, I liked it.

I fully understand about the more questions than answers...I was once a christian...so I always had more unanswered questions...than I had real answers...

Good luck with finding the answers...Im 32 and still dont have them

Play Gym That is so nice....I am happy for you and kids will love it. I used to have playhouse that I have fond memories of! [Hvezda] 2008-04-19 22:23:58

Learning

WOW thats a whole load of degrees you have and are aspiring to get!!!. I hope you do acheive all that you want. As for interests I guess we have similar interests...except for macro economy...lolz that word itself is something out of my comprehension at the moment...but yeah I'm a little slack on the money and economics department..although I do want to push myself to learn all that before life forces me to do such a thing...lolz.

I'm definately interested in knowing about cultures and history but again I get lazy in this department; as for religions..well I did learn a few facts about some but then got bored as certain facts dawned on me, I guess you know my perspective on religion. For now I'm all into spirituality but somehow I'm still connected the religion of my origin only that now I don't beleive in utmost supremacy of certain religions over one another.

Sharing the information about your wife and kids in the previous entry was good to know. The backyard play set sounds cool, I'm sure your kids will enjoy it a lot and be proud of you for doing that for them.

And I loved it when you said "It is interesting to see how we turn out to be our parents. It happens whether we like it or not"....It JUST SO TRUE!!!!!!!!!!Smile
Take care..

Awwwww... that was a very noble thing you did today and its nice to hear from you after a long time.
It is kinda scary to trust anyone these days let alone strangers!! but like they say Alls well that ends well so good for you.

Take care

P.S - Guess what.....I just typed the above message and hit add note but reaslised that I've lost my net connection and when I resumed the connection and refreshed my mail box I see a comment from you sitting in there...I found it to be a weird co-incidence....lolz....

Yeah you should definately watch Paheli... "1942 a Love Story" was a great movie too, Btw do you speak hindi?? And are you a movie lover too??
The numbers I use for this one guy is not for decoding, its just that he gave me a name which I found unique so I gave him this name which I find unique but the selection of numbers has a small history behind it and its not related to dates or something like that.

I and Religion

Well its nice to learn more about other religions but like Siple says in the article
"Siple calls herself a Christian pluralist, open to the possibility of the validity of other religious traditions."
This is what generally happens when you look at religion with an open minded view.

Its mostly because you realise that there is some truth to every religion and its teachings but none of them are 100% right; and then we return more strongly to the one we belong to coz we realize that maybe that is what was intended for me by the creator, coz we don't really choose where of what form of faith we will be born into.
Another thing I wanted to mention is that according to me most people who shift from being followers of one religion to another are actually looking for some answers and as soon as they find a religion where most of their questions are answered they switch to it only to later realise that now they have a different set of questions about the religion they are now following.
As a result of all this crazy mumbo jumbo you become someone who attatches themself to one where they are most comfortable (mostly because by now you are too used to living life accepting a religion) but at the same time you accept the possibility of validity of other religions.

Regards

Shooting in Virginia Tech I can understand your frustration and anger...I wish we could read on the forehead like a screen about what goes on inside a human head!!! The human brain is subject to such a lot of exposure of various things happening around hi/her....it is impossible to know how anyone would react to in one's life !! I am truly with you in sentiment and I pray good sense prevails all around. [sharda] 2007-04-18 04:10:54

Shooting in Virginia Tech The worst part was that the guy who did it was looking for help about something. There were red flags up all over the place because he needed help. A teacher filed a report about it, because they have to if they think somethings wrong. And they never did anything for him. I think that's the worst. Because it could've been prevented. So many people could've been saved if just one person cared enough to get him the help he needed.

My Nephew My condolances about your nephew and the tumor, that's terrible. But i wouldnt blame the hyperactivity on Codeine. Unless it's some new type of Codiene. Codiene makes you very very tired, very very fast, it's a pretty hardcore drug actually it practically numbs your whole body if your taking it as a narcotic. People peddle it a lot around here. I hope all goes well in the future for the little guy.[MashedTater] 2007-02-02 09:14:03

i read a note you left in someone's diary about MDD being blocked by your employer, and i think i can help (or at least i hope so).

but, if you're getting kudos at work for being efficient, i doubt that me giving you a bypass proxy will be helpful...though i'll give it to you anyway in hopes that it works; everyone needs to break the rules sometimes.

http://www.phpproxy.com/

type in the URL and most blocking systems will be bypassed instantaniously--and it won't show up as the site having been visited on web logs, plus the IP address with be blocked. this, my friend, is america's response to the PATRIOT ACT. i say bring it, FBI!

A Couple of Thoughts

embalment was only for the scientific purpose of protecton of spreading of disease and a holy or religious reason was given so that people followed it with care...science and reasoning takes too much time and effort!

Kansa and his family may have been or not but no historical evidence or information is available I think...if at all it must have been un impressive!

Life is a an expierience of the living.....A soul in a form which is chosen by the creator comes to being...and spaends his/her/it's sanctioned time here in this world and dies physically only to be reborn in any other form so destined in future

Meaning of Life Depot http://www.edepot.com/life.html

.....as for the 3rd question....

There is the theory of relativity....unless there is good there is no bad and vice versa...so sorrows only appear because you have to expierience the feelings of Happiness too!...

Good luck!

A baby probably sleeps half the time .. and probability is
that its awake half the nights .. and assume that an adult has a (bad)
sleepless night every 3 days and ... so the probability that the adult baby
sitter ( in this case ... you ! ) gets a proper sleep in a night is less than
25 % !!!

Looking through a man’s life through adolescence and
mid-life … A teenager never should have slept properly when he passes through
the teenage syndrome … he probably looses his sleep when he is seeing a girl …
he almost never sleeps after he is engaged  and just after marriage ..  and after having a baby .. he looses sleep ..

The kid grows up .. the responsibilities grow .. you loose
sleep..

Later .. the child grows up .. and becomes a teenager .. and still the parent
has sleepless nights ... !!!

The best sleeping nights that you  probably enjoyed was
either when you were a baby … a kid .. or  is yet to come .. the last few days of your
life … aah I sound so morbid !  Razz

Kyoto and the U.S.

I am into Solar Energy too. Being in Arizona, we get plenty of sun and heat. I wanted to heat our swimming pool with Solar cells. The cost of the project did not justify the benefits.

There are some experimental housing colonies in California that are zero energy houses. They generate their own electricity from Solar paneled roof and use energy conserving materials all around the house. During summer, they release part of their electricity back to the grid and during winter they consume the electricity back. People who live in those houses do not need to sacrifice any amneties.

You can get more info on them from

When there is nothing left but God, that is when you find out that God is all you need. Take 60 seconds and give this a shot! All you do is simply say the following small prayer for the person who sent you this.

Father, God bless all my friends in whatever it is that You know they may be needing this day! And may their life be full of your peace, prosperity and power as he/she seeks to have a closer relationship with you. Amen.

hope all is well with Tiny

MCAD

Hi, I'm not actually responding to this entree but the previous entrees.

I'm a 24 year old practicing Latter Day Saint. And I spent a year and a half of my life to preach the gospel. I've studied up on Joseph Smith and I know he's a prophet of God. There are controversial things that surrounded him at times... and really I would be suspicious if there weren't. I mean if you believe in opposition to the right there has to be.

But the best source of information on a person is never the opposition.

Yes polygamy was stopped at that time in the church's history when the government was involved. But what also must be understood was they were ready to stay in hiding or go to jail or whatever it took to be obedient, until the Lord said. "Ok, I withdraw this command" My favorite reference on this is in Jacob "For if I will, saith the Lord of Hosts, raise up seed unto me, I will command my people; otherwise they shall hearken unto these things.(one wife + one husband)."

Another thing about polygamy as the Mormons practiced it, was that in a time when suffrage was barley getting a footing and almost all women everywhere were not allowed in most professions our women were encouraged to developed their talents etc. Zina Young (one of Brigham Youngs wives) was sent to the eat to become one of the first Female Doctors (either in the west or in the United States) and she's just one example I know of. Utah was one of the first states to allow women to vote. Women of the Latter Day Saints were not put down or subjugated as they were in the rest of the country. They were respected as equals in the marriage partnership. They weren't baby making machines but they did take their callings s mother seriously and rejoiced in and took care of their children. That is the ideal. (Not every Mormon practices it.

One thing that is fundamental to our beliefs is continuing revelation. We believe God speaks to Prophets and communicates His will for us right now according to our needs and current situations. He's done so from the beginning of time.

Once the Prophet proclaims it is up to us to go to Heavenly Father and ask Him ourselves if it is from Him. Sometimes it’s as easy as a no duh, like thou shalt not kill. Other times, like polygamy, it may take much faith and prayer to know for yourself. But a personal conviction is needed, other wise we would be blind followers and then when opposition came we would fall away.

That’s my two cents. I would love to hear your comments or discuss anything else you might wish too. I’ve not yet read your second religion entrée but I’m going to. It sounds like you’ve got a very interesting past with religion. That’s exciting.

Me and Religions - Part II

Here  is are some facts which will interest you.....I am a Kunbi from maharashtra....my wife is from madhyapradesh, my co-brothers i.e. my wife's sister's husbands are from gujrath and orissa while my sister's husband is from hyderabad.....so...we are all from different states, from different religions but we all believe in Humanity as a religion .....we believe in good humans coexisting....even tho we have brahmins, kunbis, muslims etc.....in our close relations...we are truly  an  open...lot....my nephew was born in the The US...so he is an american citizen....but aren't we all citizens of the world and belong to the common human race ???

I  do preach the goodness of being blessed to be born as a human.....we must care, share, empathise, love, humour, interact, and make the world a happy place to live our life which is small and there is so much to do and apreciate.....we are wasting precious moments over unncessary topics and actions.....

All rligions are man-made and for his own convienience....what we should worship is Nature....the Sun(Fire), Wind,Sea(water),Earth,----in short not lat with it as we have been and upsetting the climate of  this planet...

Let us treat day as day and night as night ...we are going in the wrong direction(digging our own graves)...

A bit of strong philosophy.....but thats what it  is....

I do believe in a power which runs the show>>>>(destiny and fate)

I worship that power>> He, She.It......wharever....I do not make a show of it...I have it in my heart!.........why do we give it names....need we?

Me and Religions

Okay, so I havn't read your next entry quite yet, I read the first line about how you wished that a mormon would have commented...so I had to go back and read it.  Here's your wish...I am a 16 year old mormon girl here to tell you a few things.  1.  We do not practice polygamy...and havn't for years.  And the reasonings for then was to simply support those women who did not have husbands.  I don't know if you've heard about any persecutions of us, as Latter Day Saints, but for a while, the men were running thin and women had very few rights and had a hard time supporting themselves. It's a common misconception, but no, we do not believe in polygamy, and no, we do not practice it.   2.  I do not know what it is that you heard about Joseph Smith, I don't know if it is true or if you've been told lies, but I would like to know what it was.  I really liked you're entry though, makes a person think...

A man walks into a bar with a newt. And the bartender asks him .. Whats his name ? And the man says ... "Tiny" .... so the bartender asks him ... why do you call him Tiny ? .. and the man says .. " Because he is my-newt " ;-))

plus .... Charity would be a good thing to teach the kids at an early age .

Hi,

I just had a thought ....what if all the people who want to help the hurricane victims either give away things they do not use  or are keeping in their homes without any cause to the victims or then if they are not of direct use ..sell them and give the money they get from it to the needy!..
